Homecoming Week: Decades Day at last!

Today was incredible! There were seniors pulling into the parking lot blasting Michael Jackson hits, walking around with boomboxes on their shoulders, and decked out in gorgeous 80s florescent glory!
Guys of the 80s:

Doc Brown and Marty McFly

Girls of the 80s:

I wish every day were themed. People put so much more effort into what they're wearing. I'm tired of seeing the same things: white tshirt, plaid everything, jean shorts, thong sandals.

I figure if I'm going to wear clothes, they may just as well reflect my personality. I want others to see me, and not see everyone else in me.

These are a few things I like to keep in mind when I'm putting an outfit together:

1. How to wear it

You can take an article of clothing and combine it with others in an unexpected way that others may not have thought of.
2. Accessories
The choice of accessories can make or break a look. I choose things that go with what I'm wearing. NOT that match.
3. Shoes shoes shoes
Shoes are the most important part of an outfit. Without the right shoes, you can't ground the look. For example, I wouldn't intentionally put athletic shoes with a nice dress. Nor would I wear heels with plain jeans and a t-shirt.
4. Thriftiness
You would be amazed at what you can find at a thrift store if you take the opportunity to look. The majority of my clothes come from secondhand stores and most items cost me less than $5.00. To me, it's not as important what the brand name is or how expensive it is. Oddly enough, many high priced brand name items do not have the greatest design. You're paying for the brand name and not so much for the look of the garment, accessory, etc.
