Attn: Class Skippers

This is directed towards all you people who think that skipping class is acceptable.

Give me a valid reason why not going to a class or to school is a good thing. And "cuz it's boring" is no excuse. Skipping school shows your peers and especially your teachers the kind of person you are. There's a big test and you haven't studied? That's your own fault. You only got 5 hours of sleep last night? Too bad, so did everyone else. There's a Spanish oral? Toughen up, step up, and ¡habla espaƱol! Skipping class because of a presentation, a test, or "just cuz" is unacceptable and shows cowardice and a lack of responsibility.

And to those who sleep in class, unless it's study hall and you have nothing to do anyway, there is no excuse for sleeping in class. "Oh, I stayed up too late!" For IB kids, this is acceptable. For all others, your argument is invalid.

To me, skipping and sleeping in class show a complete lack of respect for your teachers and in turn, will not guarantee you any degree of respect from them.

There are plenty of people who think that school is a joke or a waste of time. All I have to say to you is "Good luck". After high school, you'll be stuck in some dead end job that doesn't count as a career, wishing you had paid attention in school and established a good reputation for yourself so that you would've been able to get those letters of recommendation.

Homecoming Week: Decades Day at last!

Today was incredible! There were seniors pulling into the parking lot blasting Michael Jackson hits, walking around with boomboxes on their shoulders, and decked out in gorgeous 80s florescent glory!
Guys of the 80s:

Doc Brown and Marty McFly

Girls of the 80s:

I wish every day were themed. People put so much more effort into what they're wearing. I'm tired of seeing the same things: white tshirt, plaid everything, jean shorts, thong sandals.

I figure if I'm going to wear clothes, they may just as well reflect my personality. I want others to see me, and not see everyone else in me.

These are a few things I like to keep in mind when I'm putting an outfit together:

1. How to wear it

You can take an article of clothing and combine it with others in an unexpected way that others may not have thought of.
2. Accessories
The choice of accessories can make or break a look. I choose things that go with what I'm wearing. NOT that match.
3. Shoes shoes shoes
Shoes are the most important part of an outfit. Without the right shoes, you can't ground the look. For example, I wouldn't intentionally put athletic shoes with a nice dress. Nor would I wear heels with plain jeans and a t-shirt.
4. Thriftiness
You would be amazed at what you can find at a thrift store if you take the opportunity to look. The majority of my clothes come from secondhand stores and most items cost me less than $5.00. To me, it's not as important what the brand name is or how expensive it is. Oddly enough, many high priced brand name items do not have the greatest design. You're paying for the brand name and not so much for the look of the garment, accessory, etc.

Thrift Find

Today I found this beautiful pair of Vaneli flats at the local Salvation Army Family Store.
They are in beautiful condition. It's like they've never been worn before! And lucky me, they're my size! It's not often I find a pair of nice shoes that fit me. (Weird, because I'm a size 7.)

They're made in Italy and are leather, with a brown lace and leather cutout detailing along the sides. They were only $5.00 too! Similar shoes brand new might set me back $50.

I love the way they fit and I'll probably end up wearing them until they can't be worn no more!

Homecoming Week: Decades Day 10/7

So tomorrow is decades day at school. We've been waiting four years for this day. It's Homecoming week, and tomorrow each class dresses in the style of a certain decade.

Freshmen: 50s
Sophomores: 60s
Juniors: 70s
Seniors: 80s

I'm trying to decide between these 2 looks:
Comment and tell me which one you like better!

<< This first one is more of that everyday 80s look. You've got a simple shirt- pants- jacket combination, with accessories, the gold chains and clock bag.

<< The second one is the stereotypical 80s workout outfit. I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be dressed this way tomorrow. However, this one did win me the costume contest at The Rocky Horror Picture Show, so I've got that to consider.

Both of these outfits will be made up with the dark black eye makeup and red lipstick, big teased hair, and the clock bag. I'll be taking pictures, so I'll post tomorrow to show some of the different outfits people are wearing.
